Preparedness in cities: Lessons from Ukraine for a resilient Europe
Monday 12 October 2026 · 17:00 – 19:30 · Brussels, Belgium

On 12 October 2026, SUN4Ukraine brought the experience of Ukrainian cities to the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels, with a round table exploring what Europe could learn from Ukraine’s approach to preparedness and resilience. The idea for the event grew directly from the exchanges of the SUN4Ukraine Partnership Programme, where Ukrainian cities learn from Mission Cities about climate neutrality, while their European partners gain insights into resilience, emergency preparedness and maintaining essential services in times of crisis. Bringing together city practitioners, Ukrainian municipal representatives and EU stakeholders, the discussion explored practical lessons for strengthening preparedness across Europe, with the Mayors of Mykolaiv and Kalush among the speakers. The event was opened by the Governing Mayor of Oslo and moderated by André Sobczak, Secretary General of Eurocities.
